What an agent adds to a conversation
An assistant can draft a caption from pasted text. A connected agent can also look up a project brief, identify missing information, propose a content plan and use permitted tools. What matters is the actions it can actually perform.
A prompt alone grants no access. Without a calendar connection, a model can suggest a date but cannot schedule a post there. Check the result in the destination tool.
Example: preparing a notebook launch
Fictional demonstration: Atelier Rivage is launching a recycled-paper notebook for independent professionals. The brief includes a launch date, two photos and a product link. It contains no sales figures or certifications.
Request: “Using this brief, suggest three Instagram angles and one TikTok video idea. List the facts you use, flag missing information and leave posts as drafts.” The expected result contains copy, a shot list and review questions. It must not invent a discount, customer review or environmental benefit.
The working loop to check
1. Set the goal, sources and deliverable. 2. Check required access. 3. Read the proposed plan. 4. Check tool calls and their results. 5. Review the content. 6. Authorize the next action.
If a connection expires or publishing fails, check the actual state before retrying. A “done” reply does not prove delivery: a status, identifier or published link lets you verify it.
Evaluate an agent on your own work
Test a complete brief, an incomplete brief and contradictory source material. Count required corrections, unsupported facts and actions needing recovery. Compare review time with manual drafting time.
